Recently, I have been involved with multiple projects with websites that do not track their visits using any form of tracking software. These clients come to us without any information about their websites current traffic and expect us to design a great SEO campaign. Although I am still able to design, coordinate, and implement an excellent search engine optimization campaign, it is more difficult.
I cannot stress the importance of implementing good tracking software, whether it is Google Analytics, Manticore, or other. Do not invest in a Paid Search campaign or a Search Engine Optimization campaign until you get some tracking software running on your website.
