Although it may seem strange to believe, the truth is schools are large users of merchant account services. Universities in particular employ a wide spectrum of merchant account services. Taking advantage of recent technological powers to add convenience for students and families proves to be a tremendous benefit.
Most every university and even some high schools offer meal cards for on campus dining and shopping. These are similar to merchant gift cards, and can be filled with cash at periodic times to allow students the freedom of choice when getting meals or supplies.
Some schools offer voucher cards that hold cash to be used when purchasing from participating local merchants. This is a step beyond meal cards that are limited to on campus merchants only. These voucher cards offer additional freedoms for students within a pre-set budget.
Purchasing parking permits and paying the subsequent tickets for not complying are handled online through web-based credit card processing. Even tuition is paid by mail, phone, Internet, or in person.
These various scenarios employ a host of merchant account services. From multiple forms of credit card processing to voucher cards, schools utilize a full spectrum of merchant account services to accommodate the differences each student, or customer, offers.
From the standpoint of business, this flexibility can be translated to offering the same flexibility to customers. Of course students do not choose their school based upon the financial solutions they offer, but this accommodation increases the satisfaction students report about their schools. In the same way customers experiencing increased satisfaction from having accommodations to meet their unique needs are highly likely to return to these same businesses and refer others to do the same. Merchants stand at a difficult crossroads of setting themselves apart from their competition, offering additional services, while at the same time increasing revenues in a cost effective manner. The array of merchant account services available will play an instrumental role in achieving this balance.
