U.S. Attorney Nominee from the White Collar Sector
Middle District of Florida having a new nominee for U.S. Attorney reporting that President Bush also put forward the name of Michael Considine for Connecticut U.S. Attorney. (read )Mike Considine is chair of Day Pitney's White Collar Defense and Internal Investigations Practice Group.
It is interesting to see two white collar defense attorneys announced as nominees for U.S. Attorney just as the TRAC statistics show that although there is an increase by 7% in white collar prosecutions for April, white collar prosecutions are down 17.7% from five years ago. As previously noted, these statistics raise interesting questions as to what should be included and what has been included in the definition of white collar crime

$200,000 Grant Will Fund Local Crime Prevention Initiatives, Enhance Investigation and Prosecution Of Gang and Gun Violence In Lowell Area
LOWELL – Seeking to help combat gang and gun violence in Greater Lowell, the United States Attorney’s Office has awarded the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Lowell Police Department with a $200,000 Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant (PSN) to fund community-based crime prevention programs and enhance local efforts to investigate and prosecute gang and gun crimes.
The grant will be used by the Middlesex District Attorney’s office and the Lowell Police Department to fund already existing prevention and problem-solving initiatives that aim to decrease gang activity and gun violence. Additionally, the funding will be used to expand and extend public awareness campaigns in Lowell, including the Community Hotline, Crime Stoppers Tip Line and Lowell’s “Top Ten Most Wanted” programSource: www.middlesexda.com

Attorney: Lindsay Lohan on track
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) - Lindsay Lohan's attorney says Lohan is on track after pleading guilty last year to drunken driving.
Blair Berk gave an update Tuesday on how Lohan is complying with her sentence for misdemeanor drunken driving and cocaine charges. Berk told the judge that Lohan is "completely on track with everything."
The judge seemed satisfied but scheduled another progress report for January.
